Seasonal caravanning in the UK is a great way to make the most of your caravan, turning it into a hassle-free holiday retreat that’s ready whenever you are. On a seasonal pitch, you can leave your caravan in place for months (or even the whole year), returning as often as you like. No more towing or hitching, or repeatedly setting up at a new site for the weekend.
Having spent years using a tent, and then touring with a caravan, it’s easy to presume you’d miss the adventure of seeing new places every weekend, but it’s surprising how much fun a seasonal pitch can be! For us, it’s like having our own holiday home all set up to return to every weekend, and in the Summer holidays, its in use pretty much all the time.
For many, an ideal location for their seasonal pitch is 45-60 minutes away from home, to make it easy to pop to on a weekend – but many are happy to travel much further for that special place. Typically, you secure a pitch for a whole season, and while most sites shut over Winter, many will allow you to keep the caravan on the site ready for the new season, or at least store it.
You’ll have all your knick-knacks to hand whenever you turn up at your caravan without all the hours of loading the car! And if you have an awning attached to the caravan, you’ve got even more room for entertaining or just relaxing with more space outside the confines of the caravan. And if you want that bit more luxury, sit the awning on decking, so its elevated off the ground.
Cost is an important factor, but it can be very cost-effective. At UK campsites, fees generally range from £1,800 to £3,000 for a season, depending on location and facilities. If you don’t use the pitch frequently, then it’s difficult to quantify the price… but if you commit to using it most weekends (not to mention during annual leave/holidays), then its a no-brainer. The convenience of deciding to go to the caravan without a second thought is fantastic. And no worries about the site being fully booked!
Then there’s the sense of community… you’ll be surprised how many good friends you make. People of all ages from young to old (and there are adult only sites around), all there for the same reason, to relax and unwind, creating a relaxed atmosphere.
