Seasonal Pitch Considerations Checklist

We’ve pulled together a checklist of what to look out for when looking for a seasonal caravan pitch. It really isn’t as daunting as it looks once you start viewing caravan sites, but its good to refer to so everything has been considered (even if you call up the site retrospectively with follow-up questions).

  1. Availability
Is there a waiting list, or are pitches available immediately?
  2. Location
Do you like the look of the area? Is there plenty to do in the vicinity? Is there shops or a local pub nearby?
  3. Pitch position
Do the available pitches have sunlight all day, or shaded by trees? Are they near to toilet/shower facilities or waste disposal?
  4. Site Rules
Are there limits on awnings, decking, age of caravan, visitors, or how you can personalise the pitch?
  5. Security
What on-site security is provided, such as CCTV and gated access (insurance providers will ask about this too)?
  6. Pitch Size
Is there adequate space for your caravan, awning, and car?
  7. Surface Quality and Drainage
Is the pitch level and well-drained to prevent flooding or sinking?
  8. Electricity and Water Hook-ups
Are connections close, and are charges included or extra?
  9. Waste Disposal
Are facilities well maintained and clean?
  10. Wi-Fi and Mobile Coverage
Is on-site Wi-Fi available? Is mobile internet access strong enough, and is there a good mobile signal for phone calls?
  11. Seasonal Pitch Cost
What is the price for the season, and what’s included (electricity, water, use of site facilities)? Is winter storage costs included?
  12. Extra Fees
Are there hidden costs for guests, pets, or utility usage?
  13. Access and Parking
Is the pitch easily accessible and is car parking provided?
  14. On-Site Facilities
Does the site offer showers, laundry, clubhouse, shop, or children’s play areas?
  15. Atmosphere
Do the regulars and staff seem friendly and welcoming?
  16. Noise Levels
Does the pitch sit near a noisy road, or any other area of noise (eg, shooting range nearby)?
  17. Insurance Requirements
Is the location known for flooding (insurance may ask this question)? Are specific caravan insurance policies required?
  18. Consistent use
Can you use the caravan for the whole season, or only for a certain amount of weeks at a time for example?
  19. Pet and Visitor Policies
Can you bring pets or have family/friends stay over freely?
  20. Contract Terms and Length
Carefully review the contract: check for refund policies, insurance requirements, and rights if you want to leave or transfer to another pitch.
